My story

Hello, I’m Helen Oldfield, founder of Affinity PR the creative agency & Affinity PR Coaching.

I’m looking forward to working with you.

It felt exciting to expand my Affinity PR agency business in 2020 by introducing this new service, bespoke PR Coaching and mentoring for individuals. Over the years lots of people have asked me “how to” things about their own PR plans or campaigns. How great that we can now work together one-to-one, so you can indeed “pick my PR brain”! I look forward to applying my energy and knowledge to your projects.

My PR and coaching credentials

I hold qualifications in Business and Finance with Visual Communication (which included Graphic Design, Photography, Advertising, Marketing and PR), Management and Leadership, Advice and Information giving, Group Facilitation and Adult Learning. In addition I have CPD certifications in Mental Health Awareness, Unconscious Bias, and Safeguarding. Plus decades of work experience in roles involving PR, leadership, creativity, training and mentoring.

My PR career began in the press offices of theatre companies in Tyneside and progressed to the world’s largest international arts festival in Edinburgh. In the early 90s, a relocation to London saw me diversifying into leadership roles in national charities, focusing on advice, fundraising management, volunteer development, education and learning, and health and wellbeing support for women, people with disabilities and people with cancer. In 2001 I relocated to Suffolk and freelanced as a UK-wide training consultant and charity project manager, then became CEO of a Citizens Advice community law service.

I returned full time to a commercial PR setting in 2006, then launched Affinity PR in 2008 to offer access to a virtual team of expert consultants in PR, marketing and creative disciplines. Soon finding a niche serving clients in the above sectors, now I serve many clients in arts and culture, live events and festivals industries. In 2012 I was awarded Visiting Fellow status by University of Suffolk’s School of Technology, Business and Arts, where I still regularly contribute to lectures, seminars and knowledge sharing with undergraduates and MBA students. Affinity PR won the Trading for Good Responsible Business Award in 2014.

Why I do this work

Every role I have thrived in has ultimately been about empowering people who want to learn, to help themselves and to improve their communications. Affinity PR is an extension of that. It feels great to have pioneered a PR Coaching service which makes bespoke PR learning accessible and affordable to individuals.

I love the wide variety of people, organisations and projects I encounter through my work. I take a keen interest in unique ideas and unconventional people. My clients want to learn how to be active in their communities and how to live and breathe their brand values, even when no one is watching.

Meeting so many different people around the UK in all kinds of roles and professions is always fascinating. Through sharing my specialist PR knowledge of national media, communications strategy, brand building and reputation management, I am so pleased that both my agency and now Affinity PR Coaching can make a difference.
